I’ve always liked Sony products, but they aren’t cheap.

I just bought a new Samsung. I paid very close attention to the contrast resolution(higher is better), and whether the HD was shown in full 1080p.

The March issue of Consumer Reports features HDTV sets; check it out. Based on your price range and the prices they quote, looks like you’re going to have to compromise somewhere; maybe a 42″ model Panasonic TH-42-PX77U, which CR rates as a Best Buy at $1300. That’s a 720p plasma set. Or you might consider an LCD set; a Toshiba Regza 42HL67 (42 in) , 720p, also a Best Buy at $1150. Needless to say, after you’ve read about them, do some comparing at the stores. BTW: although you’ll get your best price online, I’ve read some horror stories about returning defective TV’s purchased online. Good luck.

Best for plasma is Pioneer, but they are a bit out of your price range. I would say the next best is Panasonic but you will most likely only get a lesser model 720p set for 46″ in that range. Then you have Samsung next in line but probably the same price as the Panasonic.

ur out of luck iif u want a plasma hdtv more than 46″ for less than $1500. maybe tray the brand westinghouse. it’s cheap and not crap like vizio or insignia. but if i were u i would invest in a nice $2300 or so tv. it will be totally worth it. if u get a cheap one u will regret buying it because it won’t really look hd.
